In April 2020, the Needy Basket distributed over 39,000 lbs of food to 183 families (622 people). That's a jump of 83% in families served over April 2019, and a year-over-year jump of 35% from Jan-Apr, 2019 to Jan-Apr, 2020. We had lots of help. Thanks very much to the United Way of Miami County, The Dayton Foundation, The Troy Foundation, the Tipp City Foundation, the Miami County Foundation, the Miami County Farm Bureau, and Meijer© Inc for generously donating to help us buy and distribute more food to local families during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, thanks to our Shared Harvest partner food bank for pushing food to us, the Ohio Army National Guard in Cincinnati for delivering the food to us, our loyal volunteers for packing and storing food boxes, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Piqua for loading food boxes into client's vehicles. Last, but certainly not least, thanks to the local businesses, churches, and individuals who donated money, food, and time throughout the month. It's been a real Ohio team effort and every donation helps. Thank you!

May is the start of our annual fund drive! Even though our service area residents donate food throughout the year, we still must purchase 67% of the food we distribute. Also, even though the COVID-19 pandemic has the headlines now, food insecurity will be with us long after most of us begin to resume our “normal” lives. So please reflect on the 1,348 families and 4,143 people we served last year and the additional families we expect to serve this year and give generously if you can. Finally, please remember the other worthy charities and organizations that serve our local communities. Thank you!

Remember, if you need food, we can help!
